My girls..

Cue D Spunky… The matriarch and the start of my herd and the last of my grandparents herd. She comes from the true start of my grandparents AQHA breeding operation, along with their dabbling in Thoroughbreds. An accident to everyone else has been my saving grace through an ever changing life. And when I say accident, I mean it was totally preventable…

Her sire was down right UGLY. He was the bottom of the barrel of the Thoroughbreds that they raised, crooked legged, club footed, big headed and no personality that I can remember. He was 3 when they brought him home from a trainer that only had him on a treadmill when he was supposed to be broke and getting ready for the track.

Pair that with a 23 year old broodmare with what one vet called a “bad uterus” that would never carry a baby again and you get my girl Spunky. Thankfully she got most of her qualities from her mother’s side and from her granddam on her TB side. Although one quality I wish she would have gotten, when it comes to being motherly, she is not very strict with the one foal she has had. She is, what I would say in this day and age, a gentle parent.

Now to talk about the little filly that is out of my mare… Fern! She is the horse with the most names- Fern, Ferny Girl, Fernybaby, Fern-adette, and lastly Cue D Legit Fern once her papers come in. She is going to be the most challenging horse I will own from what we have done so far. I am on the fence on whether to work with her constantly until she’s two, but I will admit I am afraid she is going to get bored with what I can teach her without being on her back yet.

Only time will tell what kind of challenges we will face when it comes to starting my first 2 year old, my first homebred 2 year old at that!
